Study with internationally recognized aquatic scientists

Graduate students affiliated with the Canadian Rivers Institute pursue their research and studies under the supervision of one or more Science Directors and/or Associates. Research topics are broad ranging and include topics such as: effects of various land use practices on fish reproduction, the effect of mercury in lakes, food web dynamics, and stable isotope studies.

To date, CRI scientists have mentored more than 450 students, attracted to the CRI's internationally recognized expertise and applied research projects. CRI alumni have come from around the world, including all Canadian provinces and territories, Bhutan, Chile, China, Finland, Italy, New Zealand, Romania, and Senegal.

After their time with the CRI, students move into the workforce, many occupying prominent jobs in natural resource industries and aquatic and environmental consultancies; university professors and research scientists; and regulators in all levels of government.

“In my opinion, CRI provides me with the two most important things for my future career: expertise in my research field and communication skills.”
- Comments from a survey to CRI graduate students and alumni in February 2016, administered by CRI post-doctoral research fellows Dr. Meghann Bruce and Dr. Zacchaeus Compson.
